I have owned two of your Bauer 10's and have found them to be very reliable. I would like to relate a brief adventure about my Bauer 10 sailing dinghy, the "Windy Too" which happened a few years ago in Georgetown, Exuma.
My wife and I had been ashore and were sailing the Bauer 10 back to our anchorage. An abrupt and violent thunderstorm developed right as we were sailing across Elizabeth Harbor. The wind piped up to 40 knots, and the seas in the bay topped 6 feet. We promptly got our sails down and donned our PFD’s. But we felt quite safe in the Bauer 10. Soon, however, waves reached such a height that each crest broke over the bow of the dinghy, and we found that we were unable to bail the hull fast enough. The end result of all this was that the Bauer 10 was submerged to the gunnels, but did not sink. For all intents and purposes, we were literally sitting under water.
Deciding quickly what to do next, we both aligned ourselves along the center line of the boat to gain stability against capsizing. The lee shore was dead ahead about half of a mile, and the wind had backed north. With the Bauer 10 in it's present condition, we were fairly stable, so I hoisted the jib and we sailed downwind to the nearest lee shore. We did this, mind you, practically submerged in the water. After beaching the boat, we simply emptied the water and waited for the storm to pass.
In retrospect, all this must have looked pretty funny to some, and dangerous to others, but at no point did we feel that we were in danger. In fact, I thought the whole thing was rather well done, and I was greatly impressed with the Bauer 10 and its ability to handle extreme conditions. Thank you so much for designing and building a great sailing dinghy. Its buoyancy and stability factors are incredible, yet the boat still has the look of a salty gaff rig. Thanks again.

"I finally got to sail the boat—only in light air—but fun and responsive sailing it was! The helm balance is great and it is easy to steer with sail trim—I was impressed she will sail herself! The overall design is well thought out and seems to work very well. The blocks for the mainsheet are very nice for a boat of this size. I also must say it is the best rowing dinghy I have experienced! We love the woodwork and the hull design—the boat cover seems to be of a very high quality and the canvas rubrail is perfect. [When trailering] the bauer 10 is a joy to tow, launch and load!"
